Where Are We Now?
Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
I feel like I’m asking myself that all the time lately. There’s so much going on in my head. I’ve been writing pretty constantly, but it’s that scary, back-of-my-brain kind of writing that I don’t share with anyone.
It’s not even that what’s going on is bad. It isn’t. Some of it is actually completely awesome. I’m getting married! (Yeah, I already said that, but it still makes me ubersmile every time I say it again.)
Kristene (daughter) and I went wedding dress shopping last weekend. It was so much fun! I have never had a wedding before. I was thinking I’d already explained that, but I can’t find it so here it goes…possibly again.
Kyle and I got married at a church where one of our friend’s dad was the preacher. The dad performed the ceremony. We each had a friend come be our witnesses. It was a Thursday night. He wore shorts. I wore jeans. It was perfect for who we were. We lived happily ever after until death parted us way too early.
Richard and I got married in San Francisco at City Hall. There were no witnesses (not required in California, at least at the time). I think it was a Friday. I think we both wore jeans. I really don’t remember exactly. Sad, right? I don’t remember a lot of things from those years, but that’s a whole other story I won’t go into. We did not live happily ever after and divorced two years ago.
So that’s how I’ve never had a wedding. I really didn’t think I wanted a wedding this time either at first. It was important to honey to involve the kids so we starting figuring out how big/small a wedding it would take to do that. Here’s the thing…we both have really big, awesome families. Even if we just invite the kids, parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, we’re talking about 42 people. Seriously. (At this point, I’m starting to understand why I’ve never had a wedding…lol)
What we’ve decided on is a destination wedding. We know it’s Las Vegas. We know it’s September 17. We have a couple venues in mind, but we haven’t sealed the deal on one yet. I think we’ll have that done this week.
Anyway…so Kristene and I went dress shopping. It was pretty awesome really. I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about it, but I really enjoyed it. I am so thankful I got to share it with her. She also agreed to be my best person (maid of honor always sounded so weird to me). We didn’t dress shop for her yet because…well, she’s got this whole mom-to-be thing going on.
I can’t wait for her to be a mom! (Of course, that’s partly because I get to be a grandma…you knew it was at least a little bit about me, right?) My beautiful granddaughter will be here in May. I’m trying not to count the days, but it’s hard!
I so want to post pictures, but honey doesn’t get to see the dress before the wedding. I know it’s weird because I’m so not traditional, but I feel very strongly about this. I just want to see his face when I walk down the aisle. (Eff…I can barely even type that without tearing up. How am I going to make it through a whole ceremony?!)
So, on the wedding front, that’s where we are right now. This is getting long so I’ll save the broken foot front for next time.
Hugs, peeps! Thanks for sticking around while I’ve been AWOL!
