I’m Back!

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

Hi, friends!

I’m back from vacation…yay!

It was completely amazing. I mean, it was Vegas, so that’s a given, right? But even more than that, I got to spend 4 WHOLE days with my honey, my daughter and my daughter’s boyfriend. My daughter is the most beautiful person I know. I am so thankful for these 4 days. Also, her boyfriend is hilarious. They are so cute together, and relaxing with my honey was wonderful.

I took workout clothes, but I didn’t get in a single workout. We walked approximately a million miles every day and danced several hours Saturday night. Those were my workouts. I came back about 1.5 pounds heavier than I left. I’m super happy about that.

It felt awesome to get back to the gym yesterday though. I climbed 269 flights of stairs in an hour. I also rode my bicycle to and from the gym: about 15 minutes each way. I’m working from home this week so between that and the 3-hour time difference I’m still not over, I didn’t get up to work out this morning. I’ll get something in later today. I haven’t decided if that’s a run or stairs yet. I’m liking the thought of stairs and a long bike ride right now.

I’m running off to catch up on things now. Have an awesome today!

Pictures from San Francisco

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Hi, friends! As promised, here are a few pictures from my weekend in SF. I hope you enjoy!!

Nifty picture of a picture of a sailboat

This is actually a picture of a photo hanging in my hotel room. There’s no sun in the picture; that’s the reflection of the flash, but I thought it came out kinda cool.

Transamerica Pyramid

I’m completely obsessed with the Transamerica Pyramid. I can’t explain why. It’s just flippin’ cool.

Golden Gate Bride in the fog

This is the Golden Gate Bridge. You can’t see it, but I promise you it’s there.

Base of the Bay Bridge

This is at the base of the Bay Bridge.

Cupid's bow & arrow

I also love Cupid’s bow & arrow. :-)

Golden Gate Bridge

Sea Lions

You know it’s cold when the sea lions are cuddling to keep warm!

Petals on the ground

This is the new background on my iPhone. It just makes me smile.

From the top of Telegraph Hill

This is Pier 33 from the top of Telegraph Hill at the base of Coit Tower. I love walking up here to see the city. It’s an amazing view in every direction.

Tom

Okay, this isn’t from San Francisco, but I couldn’t resist. How cute is he? I love you, honey! :-) (And yes, there’s a bicycle in my bedroom…lol)

Have an awesome today!

I’ve Been Avoiding You

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Hi, friends. Yes, I’ve been avoiding you. San Francisco was an interesting trip of self-reflection and mental wandering. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy it, but it wasn’t what I expected either. I did finally sleep a lot, which was very much needed. I also took a few cool pictures that I’ll try to post later tonight. I have a zillion pictures from the city, but I took a couple this time that are…different. :-)

I didn’t eat well while I was there. That left me feeling very sluggish physically and really messed with my workouts. By messed with, I mean it made them impossible. I walked several hours Saturday and Sunday around the city. I didn’t just stick to the lovely, flat edges either so I can’t say there was no working out. If you’ve climbed Telegraph Hill, you’ve gotten some exercise, whether you like it or not.

However, all my not eating well left me feeling icky so I slept in Monday instead of running. I also got the scale back up to 142.2 (holy wow, I thought we were done with that). I know it was largely sodium and flying that did it, but still, I don’t want to see that poo. I just don’t.

Then Monday got all weird. As if my job isn’t weird enough, there was a fire at my client site Friday night so I ended up helping move the contents of an office Monday morning and then working from my Chicago apartment Monday afternoon. Late in the workday, I found out I wouldn’t be able to work onsite Tuesday either so I bought a bus ticket and came home. (HOME!!!)

It was late Monday night when we finally got to bed. I tried to run Tuesday morning, but I cut it short at 15 minutes because my body just wasn’t feeling it. I ate much better on Monday, but apparently, it wanted a little more recovery time than just one day.

Mid-morning Tuesday, I found out I can’t be onsite all week so that means I get to stay home (HOME!!!) all week! I’m so excited about that. My son is at my aunt’s house in southern Illinois too so it’s just me and my honey home alone all week. We were expecting that for this weekend but to have it for the whole week is just an amazing gift.

Since I didn’t need to go back to Chicago last night, honey and I went to the gym. I did 115 floors in 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes of recovery on the treadmill. (My idea of recovery is starting at an incline of 2.5 at 3.0 mph until I can feel my legs and then upping it to at least an incline of 5.0 at 3.5 mph. I’m nutty like that.) Last night’s workout felt really good finally.

I also lifted weights yesterday afternoon. I’m feeling that in my shoulders and core today. I wouldn’t call it pain yet, but I definitely have some muscles that aren’t happy at me. The weight-lifting felt hard after skipping it for so long, but I know it will just take a week or two to get back into it. It’s amazing to me how fast it comes back even after a month of skipping. Thank goodness it isn’t like starting over!

The scale said 138 this morning. That’s a big improvement in just a couple days. It’s still 11 pounds from where I want to be. It’s 42 days until my birthday, and that’s when I want to be back at my normal 127 weight. (Okay, yes, I’d like to be there tomorrow, but I’m trying this whole realism thing for kicks.)

So I’m done avoiding you and feeling very much back on track. I have yet to decide on today’s workout, but I think honey and I are going to the gym tonight. I usually don’t go there on non-stair days, but I like the idea of mixing things up while I’m home this week. I haven’t touched an elliptical in a while. I think that would feel great right now. (I can seriously feel ALL the muscles in my abs, chest and back when I take a deep breath…omgosh!)

What’s your workout plan today?
