12 Miles In Las Vegas!
Monday, April 25th, 2011
Hi, friends!
Well, the weekend of wedding planning in Las Vegas was AWESOME! We got some details ironed out and made a couple decisions and all is well with in wedding-world.
It’s still so foreign to me to be planning a wedding. I’ve never had one. I’m completely excited about the marriage, but the wedding flips me out a bit. I’m sure Tom and my beautiful daughter (who is also my best person) will get me through it just fine; I just question how sometimes…lol
After two full days of walking around the strip, we decided Friday night would be a lovely time to fit in our last really long training run: 12 miles. Seriously.
I have to say, the weather for the whole weekend was perfect. It was warm but not hot. There were pretty, puffy, white clouds here and there. It was truly beautiful.
Then we started running.
I really expected to be super hot and sweaty, but it was so dry and windy that I wasn’t. We took off from Treasure Island and ran north along Las Vegas Blvd. It was a great run in a lot of ways. One of my favorite things about running when I’m away is that you get to see places and things that you wouldn’t see any other way. (Okay, to be fair, there were some parts of this run through neighborhoods that I don’t need to see ever, ever again. I wouldn’t have done this alone!)
We started out okay pace-wise, but the more we ran, the harder and slower it got. It was a combination of temperature, dehydration, exhaustion and just general whininess (more me than him this time). There were times we were both ready to stop, but we stuck with it and finished the whole 12 miles we planned.
We ended our run at the Marriage License Bureau instead of back at the hotel and picked up our marriage license. Then we tortured a cab driver with our stinkiness to get back to the hotel from there. After we got cleaned up, we ventured back out for dinner, but we were tired to venture far.
Saturday, I really tried to put on my energetic face, but omgosh, I have never been so exhausted. I did figure out that eating every hour or so seemed to keep me from completely crashing. Of course, I didn’t figure that out until we were all the way down at Mandalay Bay and I dozed off the second I sat down. Tom proved once again that he’s the sweetest man in the world though and took very good care of super-tired me.
I’m such a lucky girl!
